The Earth Needs Management Too
The earth has been perceived as an object to be exploited for resources and developed for human wealth and convenience. It has been seen as something to plunder to power this industrial civilisation and this capitalistic system.
Our current attitude toward the earth is like a public bathroom without a janitor to supervise it. Everyone has the right to use it, but no one feels the responsibility to clean it. It is glaringly obvious that it will become dirty quickly, since so many people use it. Ultimately, the consequences will come full circle, back to all the people who use this bathroom. If it were their own bathroom they wouldn’t leave it so dirty. The earth’s crisis is a life crisis.
People, groups and nations must rise to the challenge of managing the Earth.
The heart of earth management is for each of us to have a sense of responsibility and a consciousness of ownership concerning the earth. It’s about having infinite affection and love for the earth, and for all life on the earth. It’s about caring for and managing the earth together, just as we care for our own bodies and homes.
Starts With Recovering Integrity
For earth management to succeed, ultimately, we must begin by changing ourselves and changing our families. It all starts with developing character and integrity. If you have recovered your dignity and sense of character and integrity, you will always find balance and harmony, no matter where you are. Any level of management that lacks a sense of character and integrity is meaningless. Everything is inextricably connected as one – from self management to governing a country or the entire world. The political and environmental crises we face exist because we have lost the principle of harmony and have fallen into selfishness and self centeredness.
When good people who are working together to recover their character and integrity move with the dream of Earth Management, this world will surely become a better place. We cannot actually improve the earth’s environment or achieve peace from one or two people realising this. To make this a reality, we must make such realisations and choices common sense and mainstream. That is why, ultimately, the methodology proposed by Earth Management must emphasise education.
EARTH CITIZENS, PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THE EARTH
Earth Management is not the kind of management you do in pursuit of profit. Earth Management will not bring you money. Rather, it is management for the sake of sustainability, for coexistence, and for the future generations of humanity. This is a type of management that can only be accomplished when people who truly care for the earth come together. Real answers will emerge when Earth Citizens come together.
“No one will change unless I do”, we need people who think this way and have this sense of ownership.
Instead of viewing Earth Management as something large scale, and beyond our experience, we need to find the true meaning of love for nature and the earth in our daily lives. Most people think that the world will change through good policies, good leaders and good politicians, but we think the opposite. Even if a president is a very greedy and selfish person, if the citizens still have a very healthy consciousness, the president has no choice but to follow suit.
WHO WILL PERFORM EARTH MANAGEMENT?
We are talking about the kind of education that enables you to feel and commune with the environment that surrounds you and the earth.
We need to break free of the identity that we’re from a certain city, county, state, or of a certain race. Instead when we gain a collective consciousness that we are one with the earth and that we are Earth Citizens, we can bring about change toward a positive future for the earth.
In our minds, we know, “We have no future if we keep going this way. We cannot continue to live this way.” But we are living in a consumption society. Many people feel deep discomfort because their thoughts and their understanding do not align with their actions.
Living as an Earth Citizen
IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT CAUSE CHANGE
Good habits are the best way to create real change. Those habits can include meditation or breathing exercises for your health. Brain Education can open one’s mind to new potential and move us away from desires and obsessions born of the emptiness in our society and our culture. Every act is a chance to transform our world. Show respect for everyone you encounter.
People tend to think that what they do in their daily lives is small and insignificant. They think, if I’m making a meal at home, what does that have to do with the earth? But these small, seemingly insignificant things are all connected to the earth’s environment and its future. If you can feel that, and if you are willing to help others feel it, that’s an astonishing thing. When you have this big picture in mind, your whole person changes.
A good way to summarise this would be to say that the Earth Citizen Movement begins with myself, my family, and good habits. We must begin with self-cultivation, which develops into community awareness. People’s mindset about individual freedom can potentially lead people to think, “I don’t mind as long as I’m doing ok.” But, “Wealth is like human waste. If you collect it all in one spot, you will not be able to stand the stench, but if you spread it evenly everywhere, it becomes fertilizer.” To become a good, rich person, you must not work only to produce financial profit. You must become a person who maintains good relationships with others in your community and is trusted socially. These days the culture of giving is growing. Even if they are not donations of large amounts, if there are many citizens who actively give to good causes, don’t you think our society will become that much brighter and healthier?
