On 18th September, our volunteers Dahae and Heather ran 26.2 miles at Richmond Running Festival 2016 for CYE charity. With the amazing support of CYE members, they have fund-raised £2,261 up to now. Here is their story.
What inspired me initially was visiting the Benjamin School for character education in South Korea earlier this year, which is a pioneering school giving young people the chance to create their own 1 year ‘Dream Project’, as a kind of gap year in their ‘conventional’ education.
As I heard them share about their transformation I felt how important character development is and that it is the purpose of our life, and that through focusing on projects which we are passionate about we overcome challenges and gain confidence.
They made me wake up and consider what would I like to do and how can I do it so that it benefits others. I had always wanted to run a marathon, and with my fitness and health feeling the best it’s ever done, I searched for Marathons in the UK and found a space and signed up to run for ‘Change your Energy’.
I had a running Buddy called Dahae and we both really wanted to run for this charity! We felt how much the exercises and methods that this charity shares had helped us personally and as teachers of this practice we also saw how it had helped other people recover their health and vitality. The ‘Healing Life’ tool also helped us immensely and we know that this charity also wants to disseminate more of these tools, so we really wanted to be involved and help.
The Marathon was a great achievement for both of us! Running for this charity really spurred us on and we hope next year there will be even more of us running.
Donations are still available for this fundraising event, until 30th October.
